About "BLITZ"
Native to Austin TX, Gabriel Blitz Mendez discovered his love for dance
at the age of 8 from watching his older brother. At the age of 13 Blitz
started winning almost every B-boy competition he entered. At 15 Blitz
founded Alien Squad, which has turned into an internationally known
crew. Blitz has gone from being respected locally to internationally.
Blitz's talent for hip-hop dancing has taken him around the world. Mr.
Mendez was invited to tour the world with the legendary Ken Swift
(Rock Steady Crew N.Y.C), on this tour Blitz gained 100s of fans in
countries like Japan and France. Blitz is the epitome of a b-boy, his style
integrates b-boy foundation, dancehall, funk, contemporary hip-hop,
house, capoeria, latin, and various other styles.
Blitz has had 8 fulfilling years of teaching dance in Austin. He has
trained and encouraged all ages in hip-hop, break dancing, dancehall and
house dancing. Blitz teaches at Dance Works, Atomic Dance Factory,
Broadway dance studio, Austin Parks and Recreation and Austin Dance
Arts. Blitz has become well known for his energetic and soulful classes,
he has inspired many of his students to take there dancing further than
they ever thought possible. Mr. Mendez has also won numerous awards
for his choreography at competitions. Blitz is very proud of all his dance
accomplishments, and all along raising his young son Christian, and writing
and recording music for his first album.
When it comes to Blitz's skills on the mic, this is no "two turntables and a
microphone" story. Blitz worked his way up through the trenches of the
Austin Hip Hop scene. Blitz became immersed in the hip hop sound over
a 17 year period, translating that sound into a unique physical expression
that demanded world exposure. His big break came at 22 when his crew
won first place in the US in an international Hip Hop competition. He
went on to place third world wide at the finals in Japan. At 23, after
touring internationally, Blitz began to translate his physical expression
BACK to the medium of sound. His style: the lyrics "break" to the beat!
